Perodua Names Aminar Rashid As New Managing Director

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) today announced the appointment of Aminar Rashid Salleh as its new managing director.

He will replace Datuk Syed Abdull Hafiz Syed Abu Bakar who is not seeking to renew his contract, which expires on Dec 31, 2009, the carmaker said in a statement.

Aminar Rashid's appointment is effective Nov 16, 2009, Perodua said.

Aged 49, he is currently executive director and head of the strategic marketing group at UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of UMW which is a major shareholder of Perodua with 38 per cent stake.

He has served UMW Toyota Motor since 1992 in various capacities, benefiting from the job rotation system practised by the company.

Aminar Rashid holds a degree in civil engineering from University Technology MARA and also has an executive diploma in business administration from the University of Central Lancashire, United Kingdom.

Perodua, established in 1993, is a joint venture company between Malaysian and Japanese partners.

Besides UMW, other shareholders are Daihatsu Motor Co Ltd with a 20 per cent stake, MBM Resources Bhd with 20 per cent, PNB Equity Resources Corp Sdn Bhd with 10 per cent, Mitsui & Co Ltd with seven per cent and Daihatsu (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd with five per cent.

Over the years, Perodua has produced the Kancil, Rusa, Kembara, Kenari, Kelisa, Myvi, Viva and Nautica 4WD vehicles.
